Screened Engineered Fill
Screened Engineered Fill (also called Select Fill, Structural Fill, or Engineered Backfill) is a processed and screened soil or soil-aggregate blend that meets specific geotechnical requirements for compaction, gradation, and stability.
It is typically free of organics, debris, and oversized rocks (often screened to remove material larger than 2–3 inches), with controlled particle sizes (a mix of sand, gravel, and fines) and low plasticity for predictable performance.
Common uses include:
- Building pads, foundations, and slabs for structural support and to minimize settlement.
- Retaining wall backfill, utility trenches, and road/roadway subgrades.
- Site grading, embankment construction, and raising ground levels.
- Backfill around infrastructure, slope stabilization, and general earthwork where engineered compaction is required.
- Other applications needing stable, load-bearing fill under geotechnical specifications.
It is widely used in the Bay Area for construction projects requiring reliable, tested material that compacts well under controlled placement.
