PG&E Spec Fill Sand

PG&E Spec Fill Sand (also known as PG&E Backfill Sand, Utility Sand, or Trench Backfill Sand) is a fine, washed, and screened natural sand that meets Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) specifications (typically EMS-4123) for utility work.

It provides excellent compaction, cushioning, and protection while allowing for proper drainage in many cases. It is usually gray in color and free of large rocks, organics, and excessive fines.

Common uses include:

• Bedding and shading for electrical conduits, cables, gas lines, and other underground utilities.
• Trench backfill around pipes and infrastructure.
• Clean backfill in excavations and around foundations.
• Leveling, general fill, and base material for landscaping or hardscaping projects.
• Other applications like horse arenas, golf courses, playgrounds, or where a compactable fine sand is needed.

It is widely used by utility contractors and homeowners for safe, code-compliant underground installations.
