Class 2 Permeable Base Rock

Class 2 Permeable Base Rock (also called Class II Permeable Base) is an open-graded crushed rock (typically 3/4" to 1-1/2" with minimal fines) engineered for excellent drainage while providing good structural stability and load-bearing support.

It is commonly made from crushed stone or recycled concrete and allows water to pass through easily, unlike standard Class 2 base which compacts tighter with more fines.

Common uses include:

• Base layer under permeable pavers, driveways, patios, walkways, and parking lots for stormwater infiltration.
• French drains, bioswales, rain gardens, and stormwater retention features.
• Drainage layers beneath synthetic turf, planter beds, retaining walls, and foundations.
• Road and driveway subbases, especially in areas needing good drainage.
• Utility trenches, pipe bedding, erosion control, and other applications where permeability and stability are required.

It works well for sustainable projects and meets specs like Caltrans Section 68.
